What to wear

What to wear

Sometimes it’s really hard to pick an outfit for the day, let alone your engagement session. I’m sure you’ve been on Pinterest trying to find that perfect outfit! I also know it can be a really overwhelming trying to pull it altogether.

My goal with this guide is to help relieve some of that stress. These are only guidelines, not rules! Ultimately, I’m more focused on capturing your personalities and who you guys are as a couple.

*Authenticity*

Most importantly, I want you to look back at these photos and see YOU. I want for you guys to look and feel like yourself! Not only will that help you feel more comfortable but it will help your session be more authentic. The more comfortable you are the better you’l feel.

If you love colorful clothes, wear colorful clothes! If you don’t like wearing heels, don’t wear them.

*Outfit Options*

Feel free to bring two outfits, each. As for what I suggest.. stick to a theme. Your outfits can be different but make sure the outfits tie together nicely - not too crazy different in styles. I have found that it helps the session transitions between outfits and locations more cohesive! Here are some examples.

Outfit 1: Jeans/Shorts and T-shirts or sweaters maybe with a jacket

Outfit 2: Jeans and a t-shirt for one of you, and a dress for the other

or

Outfit 1: Khaki’s and a a cute shirt for one of you and a dress

Outfit 2: Slacks and white button-up shirt for one of you (not buttoned to the top), textured dress / jumpsuit for the other

and etc… you still have the dressy elements but they are more cohesive!

*Seasonal*

It’s so important to consider the time of wear when planning your outfits. I recently had someone wear a mini skirt in 30 degree weather and she was miserable the entire time! Make sure you’re wearing outfits that make sense with the current climate.

*Location*

The location you choose should definitely affect our choice in outfit. If you are a more of a city person, consider downtown or an in-home option. If you love wide open spaces, then a field or local park is a great option! Your city sessions will have a more upscale feel, so plan accordingly. If you choose a field, don’t wear heels — choose to go barefoot or a shoe easy to move in!

If you’re struggling to figure out what kind of location you want for your session, please reach out to me. I would be happy to give guidance in that area.

*Color Scheme*

My recommendation is to stick with the neutral color scheme: whites, beige, greens, baby blues. However if you love colors and patterns go for it! Just be mindful that the patterns and colors don’t clash with one another. Don’t feel like you have to match each other though, I suggest your outfits compliment one another!

Wear hats, fun jackets + accessories!! Don’t feel like you have to hold back in that department.

I hope this was a helpful tool for you — as always if you have any questions please please please reach out to me!! I’m here to help.
